PDT Skin Treatment – Removal Of Sun Damaged Skin Cells

 

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is used mainly to treat superficial skin cancers. PDT is very effective in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinomas and actinic keratoses. It PDT is also beneficial in the treatment of thin, small, and low-risk nodular basal cell carcinomas on the outside of the neck and head area.

PDT is non-invasive and can successfully treat inflammatory, neoplastic, and infectious skin conditions.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure 2 weeks before & after
  • Avoid vitamin A & prescription skincare for 1 week
  • No products on skin for appointment (i.e. makeup, artificial tan, moisturiser)

What Can I Expect After The PDT Treatment?

The treated area will be sensitive after treatment, so it is recommended to be vigilant with sun care for at least one-week post-treatment. Using adequate sun protection always is recommended. It is common for the skin to appear red for a couple of days, followed by light shedding or peeling of the area.

How Much Photodynamic Therapy Will I Need?

The number of treatments required varies per individual, depending on the level of damage. One to three sessions are most common. This will be discussed with our Cosmetic Physicians prior to the treatment.
